Family School Staff Involvement
The posting below was from a Family Foundation School Staff member, Millie Triff, who posted the comment on a Facebook group of Family School Supporters. She wrote "I know you kids think you were treated poorly but believe me, if we had gone easy on you the outcome wouldn't have been the wonderful adults you have become."
We are so alarmed that a staff member would excuse the abuses of the Family School by citing how well a student is doing post-Family School. We think abuse is abuse and in a residential treatment facility housing youth, abuse is unacceptable practice.
According to the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, "any employee or volunteer in a residential care program for youth" is required to report suspected child abuse or maltreatment.
The Family School Administration has yet to report Child Abuse that occurs at the school, even though it is illegal NOT TO report it!
New York State and the New York State Child Protective System recognize certain professionals as holding the important role of mandated reporter of child abuse or maltreatment. These professionals can be held liable by both the civil and criminal legal systems for intentionally failing to make a report. Mandated reporters are required to report instances of suspected child abuse or maltreatment when presented with reasonable cause to suspect child abuse in their professional roles. Once reported, the local Child Protective Services are required to initiate an investigation within 24 hours.
According to WRITTEN testimony from ex-students, child abuse and maltreatment has been going on at the Family Foundation School as far back as the 90's. Why hasn't any staff member reported any abuse in over 10 years?? With clearly abusive situations stated in testimonials on the CAFETY website and in front of congress, school officials and staff are failing to report abuse.

Although it is illegal for an employer to retaliate, we know that you speaking up may put your job in danger and we want to protect you for doing the right thing.
